renewable resources such as corn starch.

PLA, or polylactic acid, is a bioplastic commonly produced from
fermented plant sugars found in corn, cassava or sugarcane. These sugars are processed into a durable material that can be used as an alternative to
traditional petroleum-based plastic.

The time required for PLA and other compostable materials to break down depends on temperature, moisture, oxygen and microbial activity. Some products require commercial composting facilities, while products certified to AS 5810 are suitable for home composting.
